Story Belongs to Everyone at the Table

I became a Game Master because I love stories, but more specifically, I love what happens when a story stops belonging to one person. I can build the world, populate it with characters, create conflicts, mysteries, dangers, and possibilities, but the most memorable moments happen when players begin shaping that world themselves. A character makes an unexpected choice. Someone turns a simple dice roll into a vivid scene. A relationship develops that nobody planned. Suddenly, the story has become something none of us could have created alone.

That is what collaborative storytelling means to me. I want players to have genuine agency, to know that their character's history, relationships, goals, flaws, and decisions can leave permanent marks on the world. I would rather prepare meaningful situations than predetermined solutions, then see what the table does with them. Clever ideas deserve room to breathe. Bold choices should matter. Failure can be just as important to the story as victory.

When everyone contributes, players gain more than a seat in someone else's adventure. They gain ownership of it. The triumphs feel earned, the consequences feel personal, and emotional moments carry more weight because everyone helped create the road that led there. Horror, comedy, tension, heartbreak, camaraderie, and victory can all exist in the same campaign because the story is responding to real people making real choices through their characters.

To me, the best tabletop story is one that could only have happened with these players, playing these characters, making these choices, at this table.

That is the kind of story I want to create with you.
